I Wish Athletes Weren't Celebrities

I am an admitted sports junkie. I am enthralled by the ability and grace of modern athletes in all of the major sports. I like nothing better than watching the best in the world practice their craft.

Fisk waving that ball fair in '75, Bucky in '78, David Tyree's impossible catch in the Super Bowl, Dr. J swooping all the way around the hoop to lay it in off the glass.. I could go on and on and on..

For me there's nothing better than witnessing these transcendent moments. I greatly admire world class athletes for the skill in their chosen profession.

What they do off the field/court/pitch is of absolutely zero interest to me. They're all grownups, they do what they do and they are responsible for their actions. Period.

Give me the score, show me the highlights and move on to the next game.

Thanks.

I just don't get it

Ok, it's a holiday weekend, the July 4th weekend. It's a very hot, very summer kind of day. I am inside, taking a much needed break from the heat and the sun. My little one has just drifted off for a nap.

I get Lord knows how many channels on my cable box. I just flipped through them all. There is not a single baseball game being broadcast.

On a Holiday in July, in the United States of America, in the middle of the afternoon.

How is that even possible?
